Watch: Kamal Speaks Brings Poetry to the People of Atlanta Jazz Festival

Attendees at the Atlanta Jazz Festival

This weekend’s Atlanta Jazz Festival wasn’t just about smooth sounds and soulful horns—it was also about powerful words and community connection. Among the crowd enjoying the rhythm and sunshine was none other than Kamal Speaks, a world-renowned poet whose passion for culture, creativity, and his people was on full display.

Kamal, who was out mingling with festival goers and selling his book “Words, Thoughts, and Manifestation” shared what drew him to the celebration:
“The people. This is my genre. I love the vibe—I want to see my people,” he said.

Although this isn’t his first time at the festival, he’s no stranger to its electric energy. For Kamal, it’s not about seeing any particular headliner. Instead, he comes for “the whole vibe itself… the people.”

He also gave a special shoutout to The Social Cafe in Snellville, where he’s known to perform. And yes—he plans to return.

But the real highlight? A surprise spoken word performance that stopped passersby in their tracks. With powerful lines like:

“Your words are timeless, so forget the hourglass…
You’ve been blessed with a gift to prophesize, to see the world through a prophet’s eyes.”

Kamal reminded everyone that poetry is jazz too—rhythmic, improvisational, and rooted in soul.
